Elder Leroy Tyus was born to John and Mary Tyus in Hancock County along with 2 sisters and also 3 brothers. he began his ministry under the watchful eyes of the late Supt Barnwell, Elder Tyus was lead by the Holy Spirit to expand the ministry by going out into the vineyard and bring in lost souls to CHRIST. So he set out on his own, with GOD leading the way. Accompanying Elder Tyus is his wife Missionary Bessie Tyus, and his younger brother Elder Gene Tyus.
First, beginning in Lagrange, Georgia; their faithfulness kept them working in the LORD'S vineyard of souls for abot 6 months & after fasting and praying, the LORD called them back to Atlanta, Georgia, where in 1984 they met with Supt Sherman. During this time, the ministry was enabled to continue at 509 Edgewood Avenue in Atlanta. Here they served for another year. It was in this year that the church received Mr. Carter as their first member. The Pastor was fasting and praying for the Lord to give him a name. The Lord spoke and the Pastor listened, "The Greater St. Paul Church Of God In Christ". Elder Tyus truly excepted his calling as Pastor.
